KSP founders visit the Museum of the History of Polish Jews

May 16 2013

JK and LS Jewish Museum

Dr. Jan Kulczyk and Larry Silverstein visit the Museum of the History of Polish Jews, which opened to the public in April 2013 as a cultural and educational center. The opening of the Core Exhibition, presenting the thousand-year history of Polish Jews, is scheduled for the beginning of 2014.

Dr. Kulczyk’s investment house, Kulczyk Holding, contributed PLN 20 million to the world’s first and only museum devoted entirely to the history of Polish Jews. It is the largest single donation to date.

Last October, Dr. Kulczyk and Mr. Silverstein hosted the official preview of the Museum and press conference at 7 World Trade Center to announce a program of cultural and educational events for the Museum.

The Museum stands in what was once the heart of Jewish Warsaw – an area which the Nazis turned into the Warsaw Ghetto during World War II. The design by Finnish studio Lahdelma & Mahlamäki was selected in an international competition. With the building still under construction, it received the prestigious Chicago Athenaeum International Architecture Award in 2008.

The museum is Poland’s first public-private institution of this type developed jointly by the government, local government and NGO. Formally founded in 2005 by the Association of the Jewish Historical Institute of Poland, the City of Warsaw and the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, the Museum is an unique and unprecedented initiative, spanning many fields of research and drawing on the expertise of scholars and museum professionals from around the world.
